WELCOME TO MY ANIMAL PHYSIOLOGY PROJECT ON BEES!

Welcome to my project on bees as a part of my Animal Physiology class at SF State. I chose this project because I have always been interested in the complex physiology and unique social dynamics of hymenopterans, with bees being my favorite. I’m really proud of this project and I hope you enjoy it! Have a look and contact me with any questions or comments.

INTRODUCING ANTHOPHILA, OR THE BEE

A complex organism living in a complex society

Bees are a monophyletic group of insects in the order Hymenoptera. They are members of the superfamily, Apoidea, alongside wasps and are distant cousins to ants. There are about 20,000 types of bees in the world, including the common Western Honey Bee, Carpenter Bee, and Bumble Bee. They have strict eusocial hierarchies, complex neural connections, and many other interesting physiological attributes that will be explored in this project as chapter entries. Each entry will discuss a lecture topic including details of animal physiology as it relates to bees.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

This project will focus on 8 topics of information based on the Animal Physiology syllabus and references the textbook, Animal Physiology by Richard W. Hill, Gordon A. Wyse, Margaret Anderson. The information will be listed as chapter entries, discussing the topics in depth. All other references used to compile the information to create this website are listed on the bibliography page.
